SOCIAL SERVICE MANAGER - INTAKE SEX ABUSE UNIT

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provide supervision to a specialized social worker unit investigating reports of sexual abuse and coordinate services with other agencies. 

Supervise and instruct social workers within a specialized sexual abuse unit. Review, prioritize, and assign sexual abuse referrals from the agency’s Hotline to unit staff. Qualified and highly trained workers in the unit may also receive limited assignments of serious physical injury, high profile/media involved cases, and other crisis situations.

Proficient knowledge of the forensic interview, investigative techniques, and the multidisciplinary approach in responding to child victims of sexual abuse and their families. Assist staff in the investigative process as necessary. 

Review and assist workers in determining cases needing scheduled for Child Advocacy Center (CAC) appointments. Train staff to effectively observe and/or participate in CAC interviews. Monitor activities of workers temporarily co-located to the CAC facility. 

Prepare and mentor staff in working collaboratively with other community agencies including law enforcement, hospital/CAC, Victims Assistance, mental health, and Prosecutor’s Office. Seek cross-training opportunities when appropriate.

Attend and/or conduct agency, department, and unit meetings; recommend specific program improvements to the Department Director.

Assemble monthly statistics of the unit by regularly completing the Weekly Activity Report and submit to Department Director.

Assess need for ongoing and advanced forensic training among unit staff.

Maintain open communication, dialogue with other agency department supervisors and workers when shared cases are assigned.
